Oral Paracoccidioidomycosis, Clinical Characteristics, Diagnosis and Treatment

Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is an infection caused by the dimorphic fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, which has a predilection for hot and humid places; thus, this disease particularly high incidence in Brazil. Children, adolescents, adults can be affected acute/subacute or chronic PCM. To describe clinical-pathological characteristics treatment of case PCM oral lesion. The examination 57-year-old male patient revealed moriform stomatitis on perioral region (irregular shape), lips vermilion, continuity with jugal mucosa. After incisional biopsy, anatomopathological analysis confirmed diagnosis was referred to reference center tropical diseases treated 400mg sulfamethoxazole 80mg trimethoprim twice day. Since some adverse effects were observed, switched 100mg itraconazole follow-up accelerated healing lesions reduction inflammatory process. Stomatologists play key role identification referral adequate infectious specialist.
